We have a number of items for you today.
As discussed at the AGM in Edmonton in February 2016, CPEG has had its bylaws rewritten, to be in compliance with new federal guidelines for organizations. The Executive is re-circulating a draft of the amended bylaws for review by the membership, and full members will receive an e-voting link in the next while to decide about its approval. The draft is available here.
The Canadian Pediatric Endocrine Group is proud to announce the launch of the Diabetes@School website, which is a collaborative effort between CPEG, the Canadian Pediatric Society and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
The new website for Diabetes@School features bilingual training resources for use by educators, school boards, and parents of children with diabetes. Topics include understanding blood sugars, food and insulin, physical activity and type 1 diabetes, and communication between home and school. The site also features a template Individual Care Plan, which details all aspects of a student’s diabetes care while at school. The next phase of the project will be to develop video modules. For now it is text based.
The official news release is here. Our hope is that you will let your patients, colleagues, educators, community partners etc know about the site. A flyer is also available here.
If you have feedback on the site, there is a link info@cps.ca to send this to the CPS as a central source, and we will use this to make modifications going forward.
Thank you, and we hope you will visit the site and find it helpful. Many thanks to Beth Cummings, who was our CPEG rep on the working group, and to all of you who have provided guidance and support along the way.
Sarah Lawrence, MD, FRCPC
Announcing a CPEG Global Health Poster Forum at 2017 CPEG meeting. The abstract deadline is November 30, 2016.
Are you involved in Global Health? Please share your experiences with CPEG.
At the 2017 CPEG Scientific Meeting, one of our themes will be Global Endocrinology. We have some exciting speakers, but we also would like to hear what our pediatric endocrinology colleagues around the country are doing in the field of Global Health. You are invited to submit an abstract describing your global health involvement. A structured abstract is preferred, using the headings Rationale and Objectives; Project Description; Outcomes; and Discussion/Future Directions.
The abstract should be submitted on the CPEG website by Wednesday, November 30. Please be sure to tick the “global health” box to distinguish your abstract from the fellows' abstracts. Any questions can be directed to Beth Cummings (elizabeth.cummings@dal.ca)
A reminder to all Program Directors and residents that the CPEG Fellowship Program applications are due on November 21, 2016 with no exceptions. As well, abstract submissions for the 2017 CPEG Scientific Meeting are due on November 21, 2016 with no exceptions. Residents who are not yet members of CPEG must apply for membership in advance of submitting an abstract or an application for the fellowship award.
Dr. Munier Nour is extending a second invitation to participate in a survey titled “Survey of pediatric endocrinologists regarding the use of peri-operative high dose steroids for children with adrenal insufficiency.”
Link to the survey: https://fluidsurveys.usask.ca/surveys/munier-nour/cah-questionnaire/
It will take 5 minutes to complete this questionnaire. The aim of this survey is to describe the clinical practice patterns among pediatric endocrinologists in Canada. A similar study has taken place of pediatric anesthesiologists, and results will be compared. We would greatly appreciate your assistance by completing this survey, even if you do not regularly treat patients with syndromes causing adrenal insufficiency. Completion and return of the survey will constitute consent to participate and permission for the researcher to use the data gathered in the manner described.
Many thanks for your attention,
